Well it did for a while but then some things started to bother me. Went and tried on the Rolex again and came to the conclusion that it's not for me either, I do need a bit more edge from a watch than it has.. Did some more research and found a piece that ticks all the boxes.. Going to pay the deposit on it on saturday and in the end of january it will be mine! I'll keep you guys in suspense for a while 😉

Ahh come man tell us the suspense will kill me!!!

On another note i watch i have been contemplating for sometime came up at a resonable price but before i could enquire about it,it had gone 😞

Well, one of he reasons (and a hint) that I had to decide quickly is that the model is discontinued and hard to find new in shops.. And another hint is that it's not far from a watch in a post by me a couple of pages back 😉

        AIAN HA-TO!

Must admit this particular watch had escaped my radar, rather nice looking and it looks as if it could take a beating. Only thing i'm not so keen on his how deep the face sits inside the bezel.

Yeah, Marathons are tall watches.  That's one of the things that's always put me off of them.  I'm constantly banging my watches into stuff and I prefer low profile ones, so that I can cut down on the dings and scratches that I invariably pick up.

You're right about them being designed to take a beating, though; the company has contracts with the US and Canadian militaries to produce watches for their troops.  If you hunt around, you can get a watch with the US seal or the Canadian maple leaf on the clasp of the bracelet.  I've read that the bracelet is really well made, too.

Yeah i read about the military contracts they have and no doubt it's very much a feather in the cap of the company as well as a great marketing tool. I get and could live with a 'Standard' versions dial but having the seal on the bracelet does not appeal at all is just to much too cheesy even, for me anyway in thought.

I have been beating on this JSAR for almost a year. Its pretty much the IH of watches. Ridiculously thick stainless steel that begs to be abused…

what do you keep all those beauties in to keep correct time?  i'm scared to invest in a good watch because of the upkeep involved, also, just my addictive personality, yikes.

Personally, I just let my watches run down, then wind and set them when I decide which one I'm wearing each day.  It only takes a minute or two and just becomes part of the morning routine.

I have a winder that can accommodate 4 watches at a time, but frankly, that's too much effort for me.

If you're talking about maintenance and servicing, most watch manufacturers recommend a cleaning/check up every 3-4 years for automatics and manual winders.  Of course, that's the recommendation; you can go a lot longer, especially if you rotate several pieces.

C'mon, Monday, join us over here in the watch fanatic crowd.  You don't know the power of the Dark Side…
