I know probably none of you will like this. But for me I have been listening to them for the past 3 years and I must say listening to their second album then third and now this (never liked the first) I must say holy shit. It is honestly like watching a child grow up. They have become so much more in touch with what they are doing and musically improved beyond recognition. They actually suck (in their first album) if you were to compare this to the first album.

I love all kinds of music, really all kinds.  I would almost say that I live for music.  I can get behind pretty much anything if it is done well and played in the right environment (except smooth jazz/easy listening type stuff).  BUT, I don't really understand the stuff you guys are listening to above.  I have enjoyed it at times (getting tattooed, before a hockey game, etc).  I know music is more than just what you hear, it represents who we are and all that but do you guys listen to that driving in your car (not on the way to commit a violent crime).  I mean like driving with your girl, going to dinner, "hey baby, check this out", hit play and some guy is fucking screaming bloody murder in front of a group of musicians playing as loud as they possibly can?  Does that happen?  I really don't mean to knock it.  I know that it takes talent and it makes some people feel the way they are looking to feel when they play it…I just don't understand how that can be someones primary source of entertainment.

Riff, El, anyone else, I really would love to get your feedback on this stuff.  If you guys dig it then I really am behind you guys but please help me understand.  If it's something that I can understand...

Personally I listen to it since I never really ventured out to different genres. I have ALWAYS been a rock fan and not that classical rock or other stuff, but the harder stuff. I remember going to watch MTV just to listen to linkin park back in the day. Eventually I branched out a bit more taking in different sub-genres of rock. My roots branch back to Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and the Lostprophets. I came across a punk-ish band called Finch and they started making me appreciate screaming in music. I also dont JUST listen to screaming in music - rather the really fast pace and the intense drums.

Anyways to make a long story longer I was starting to really appreciate the fast footwork of the harder stuff, I even remember when I first started to get into screamo (I really don't listen to screamo anymore tho) which was about 3-4 years back. I remember if it didn't have clean vocals I couldn't stand it - after a while, however, I could stand it if there were no clean vocals. Then about 2-3 years ago I stumbled across a band called August Burns Red and they opened up the whole other side of Music to me. Matt Greiners work on the drums was beautiful to me (still is, but I realize it isn't as complex as I thought it was). So the fact that ABR only screams after about a year of listening to them I started searching iTunes to find out more music and started getting into all the experimental rock/progressive rock/etc.. And luckily about a year and a half ago I stumbled upon all the cool ass rock.

Now to answer your question - it took me a hell of a long time to get into this stuff. I mean you can NOT one day be listening to justin beiber and switch over to Meshuggah you have to actually appreciate the music first. I can almost guarantee anyone will not like it at first. It takes time first you have to start appreciating the sound and realize, oh shit… this is insane I mean like the guitars are insane, drumming, and believe it or not the vocals. Trying to play this shit for your gf is just dumb imo if anything take her to a concert where she could possibly see the complexity of the music. Also some music I hate with screaming in it - others I can really appreciate but for the most part none of them randomly hit the drums. If they can play uber-extreme-fast-melodic notes live and hit the notes at almost the same time as the recording I highly doubt they are just playing as loud as possible.

But think of it this way - how does someone listen to a band that you hate? Like I personally hate country... how the fuck could anyone listen to that? I find country to be THE hands down worse genre (sorry to those who love country but I needed an example of what genre I hate). We all are entitled to our own opinions, I know maybe 10-15 kids in my school actually likes music with screaming. And el, its all good 🙂 I can really only vouch that I would listen to 2/4 of their albums.
