      @Chris:

      Yeah, that's a shit ton of work. A full resole would be less trouble.

      In the comments, they say they offer the service for $100, plus shipping, which sounds entirely reasonable. Maybe you could get them to do it?

      I saw that, too. Agree on the price if shipping to Taiwan is reasonable. Full resole would be fine as well but I have no clue if that attracts a shoemaker in Europe. Seems to be no standard procedure.  :-
      Anyway, thanks a lot!

      Has anybody tried to get their celastic toe boxes removed (Like this:

      )? Have gotten tired of the looks of my single celastic toe box in my Semi Dress boots. Contacted a high profile shoemaker (self proclaimed "shoegod") here in Germany who sells Red Wings und repairs Wesco, Viberg and such. Answer: Not offering that kind of service. Is it that hard to do? Any recommendations, maybe even in Continental Europe?

      I see. So let´s assume the brushing results in burnished leather. Is it harmful for the boot (elasticity, resiliency etc. of the leather)?

      @seawolf:

      I'm guessing the dark color is occurring because with daily brushing and the application of wax, you're essentially burnishing the leather. Any friction you apply to leather will result in burnishing. The change is happening so slowly that you're probably not even noticing. Just taking a stab in the dark.

      Sounds interesting, though I am not sure if I totally get the meaning of burnishing (dictionary gives me like 6 different words which slightly different meanings in my language). Is it similar to finishing the edges on a leather belt?

      Looking at these in British Tan, undecided now!

      What is the spec for these, please.

      I am no expert at all so this is more speculation/observation than knowledge (maybe somebody who really knows his stuff can chime in):
      The regular brushing keeps the shoe clean removes dust etc.
      The protective layer of wax on the surface gets affected by daily scratches and marks. The brushing renews the layer and keeps it always intact. If you are looking for deep marks and scratches (can also look good imo) brushing might be the wrong strategy  😉
      The leather gets a somewhat rich tone (don´t know how)

      @superfuzz:

      Is Saphir good for horse hide?

      Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

      I guess that Kiwi, Burgol etc. do the job as well. They are all wax-based. Imo the brushing is the more important part - 30 secs after every use, ignoring the wife´s laughing at you.

      Same boots - I have used a colorless shoe cream (Saphir) once in a while and a horsehair brush frequently.
