Hard to illustrate without feeling them since the only difference really is the material (the sizing is ever so slightly different but I think mainly the sleeves are shorter on the sheep and then the other fit differences are just from the thickness/pliability of the material).

As you’ll see when you get your steer, it’s pretty beefy. Total tank that will last forever. The sheep skin is more akin to regular suede. Definitely well made and not something you need to baby but I don’t think it’s something I would be able to just absent mindedly wear without being conscious of taking care of it either. Whether that’s the rain, spilled drinks on a bar table, or dirt/grime.

The steer also has a bit more of a shape/structure to it due to the leather, whereas the suede will be softer/more like a shirt jacket in drape. I think the difference here is purely a matter of preference, with the steer definitely more befitting of the biker/trucker aesthetic. I also think the steer will soften and wear in quite a bit over time and only improve with age but the suede might just stay as is for better or worse.

@Mizmazzle Yes but only because I'm opting for the sheepskin which fits me and fits in with my wardrobe better. Though I now have them side by side and it's extremely hard to not envy the rugged/heft of the steer. One of the best made pieces of anything I've ever encountered.

As long as it fits you, you can't go wrong with either one.

@Alex great, thank you! Would you recommend any kind of suede waterproofer on it like saphir invulner? Or is the juice not worth the squeeze?

Would be happy to treat it just to make any rain/errant beverage less of an issue but if it’s not needed then don’t what to muck up the texture or anything with treatment.

@Mizmazzle fit looks dynamite here with the overshirt underneath! If that’s how you plan to wear it I think it’s on the money.

Would try and get straight answer from the seller on the sleeve marks, but I can’t imagine it’s something you would have too much trouble cleaning off/out.

Saw elsewhere I think on eBay or maybe style forum someone selling or having sold one with shortened sleeves and it looked great, so it definitely can be done if the sleeve length is the only hiccup FWIW!

Echoing @J-IV here and would love to know anything about cleaning but also general care. the split steer seems indestructible but this one feels like something you should avoid wearing in the rain (though maybe not as delicate as typical suede).

@Mizmazzle I don't think so, or at least more than anything else that's black....the cowhide has a nice texture to it that might be more easily brushed off than something like suede.

But I don't have a furry dog to test this out with so someone may correct me!
