How do you spot clean your jeans without ruining the look out the indigo and the natural fade progression?

I dropped toothpaste on my jeans and got most off but now there are large white spots on them.  I tried cleaning the spots off with a wet towel and noticed the area was getting light blue so I stopped cleaning so not have a large light blue area haloing the white spots.

Do I just forget about it and deal (happened on my 2nd day of wearing them) until i decide to wash them, or is there a secret way of getting the stain out by spot cleaning them some how without creating a light spot?

I would hate to have to wash them so early in its lifespan

that sucks. i would have let it dry and try brushing it out.

I brush my jeans about once a week while at work. It always surprises me just how dusty they get

^ I've got to try that since I have taken to walking 2 miles a day on a dirt trail by my work….I've just been slapping my jeans with my hand while I hold them with my other

Stupid thing about toothpaste is that most will contain whitening or bleaching components. Brushing it off if is dry or using lots of water immediately if it is wet.
Rubbing it in with water can have bad consequences in the long run - the bleaching components reacting with the indigo/dye.
In any case - take it like a man - although not exactly a fading but actual proof that you wear your jeans and not pamper them too much. Battle scars?

Yeah - and to add fuel to the quick fade fire was that it was also toothpaste with baking soda.

I cleaned it by throughly hot soaking the area while vigorously shaking it and have been wearing them proudly ever since…light spot and all

You guys probably know this already, but I'm new to all this and it worked for me, so I thought I'd share it. Got my new jeans - DC4001, hot soaked to get shrinkage out (.75 in length, measured straight after drying, became .5 after a little wearing), then sent them off to Giles for hemming. Got them back, obviously un-roped hems, so, because I don't aim to wash them for months, soaked the hems, hung to dry, and noticed that there was plenty of roping on the inside, but none to speak of on the outside.

Struck me that this was because the denim bunches up on the inside of the circle (tighter radius), and tries to stretch on the outside.

Soaked agin, inside out, hung out to dry, still inside out, in our glorious English sunshine til dried to a (crinkle-cut) crisp, checked and hey presto, lovely roping. no washing involved.

                      (Cuff wearers ignore…)

Pretty much common knowledge I thought and really it's still washing just not the whole jeans.

Can anyone recommend a good/cheap-ish product to get the patch supple again? It's rather dried out.

Once again Ebay comes to my rescue/steals my money.

Checked out DC4 as well. Their only leather care product is 45€ which is a bit too rich for my pocket at the moment.

I always use Red Wing Boot oil and Mink oil. Much cheaper than obenaufs or the DC4 thing. 5-10€.
