@Giles Apart from this book called Weaving: Conversion of yarn to fabric, which other books would you suggest to someone who wants to understand all that goes behind a pair of jeans?

    Thanks,

    Hello,

I am looking to buy about 12-14 yards of Japanese selvedge chambray fabric (7-10 oz).

I have already tried searching for it in DrySelvedge, Pacific Blue, Etsy, and Premium Denim Outlet. Are there any retailers/jobbers/mills that can ship this fabric without any MOQ (minimum order quantity) to India?

    Thanks,
    Sreeni

P.S> At a time when one can buy just about everything on the internet, I find it surprising that there isn't much choice for buying selvedge fabrics.

    A few points –

    1. It was the seller who proposed to free 8 yards if I could write a few good things about him on networks like Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit. From his perspective, he was giving away a few remaining yards of fabric to get a little attention on the internet. And the seller doesn't have a lot of presence on the internet.

    2. I was happy to find someone who didn't have a Minimum Order Quantity. So I was willing to pay the price of the fabric.

    3. It was the postal company which lost the package. The seller should be claiming compensation from them, IMO. There must be some compensation, albeit low, for non-delivery where tracking hasn't been enabled.

    4. I spent more than three months chasing the seller. I was even ready for any deal for lighter fabrics as long as I got some discount for the money I had lost. I had to escalate it simply because I didn't hear anything from the seller and it was over 120 days since the transaction. I did my best to settle this amicably.

    5. According to PayPal's rules, the buyer is protected in case of non-delivery. It makes no mention of tracking.  https://www.paypal.com/in/webapps/mpp/paypal-buyer-protection

    6. Finally, it was the seller who offered me the option of shipping without tracking. It was he who chose the Postal Company which lost the package.

I rest my case. Thank you!

Quick update - PayPal decided in my favour. I am going to be more careful and read PayPal's tips for buyers. Thanks again!

    Thanks for the replies @Giles @scooter @spitfiredealer !

And yes, it is a life lesson, irrespective of what PayPal decides.

I am still looking to buy a few yards of Japanese denim. Apart from dryselvedge.com and Pacific Blue Denims, are there other reliable sellers who sell smaller quantities of selvedge denim?

    Thanks!

  • RE: There's no Such Thing as a Stupid Question

    Hello,

I ordered about 10 yards of selvedge chambray fabric from a mill. The seller said that he would free the yardage if I wrote some good things about the mill on the internet. Although there was an option to get the fabric shipped with the tracking option, I chose to get it shipped without the tracking option to reduce the cost. In all, I paid USD 35. The seller dispatched the package and said that it will take two months to reach my doorstep.

The problem is that the package never arrived and seems to have been "lost". Now that I have escalated it to PayPal, the seller is saying that he is not responsible because:

    a) the fabrics were free and I only paid for shipping
    b) I chose the option of shipping without tracking

I am waiting for PayPal to give their final decision on whether I should get a refund.

But who do you think is responsible in this case? I would like to know your thoughts.

    Thank you for reading!

Will be at Lords on Thursday!

Will you be carrying a placard? Anyway, hope it doesn't rain anymore although the weather forecast says otherwise.

    1. The cost of shipping is more than the cost of the denim
    2. I wouldn't know what to do with an extra yard of denim.

Hence, I wanted to be as exact as possible. That said, I will err on the side of shipping more. Thanks!

    @Chris:

I'd estimate you could do it with 2.5 to 3 yards, but I'd get 4, just to have more margin of error.

That said, I've never made a shirt, so I'm not an expert.

    @Sreeni:

Why aren't extinct products brought back from the dead and with the same model number? And why don't shirts have rivets?

Extinct products come from endangered ones. Typically there is a good reason they begin life endangered and not extant
