    • RE: Oak Street Bootmakers

      @derivative666:

      You can't compare Viberg to OSB. That is like comparing Alden to White's. OSB is an outstanding artisan shop. Their products and customer service is top notch. If you are looking for a comfortable boot or shoe to wear casually or for fashion OSB will fit what you are looking for. If you are looking to put out forest fires and trudge through the wilderness you should be looking for another company. That being said. I highly recommend OSB those guys are great and they back their products 100%

      OSB is not an artisan shop. As far as I know, no boots are made on Oak Street in Chicago. Highland makes their moccasin-constructed shoes, and their Trench Boot line is all made by P.W. Minor. In terms of materials quality, OSB cuts a few corners and uses leather that makers like White's and Viberg would discard. Lately they've had significant issues with welt-stitching tension, and while OSB CS is usually top-notch, OSB refuses to regard the issue as, well, an issue. This album (http://imgur.com/a/ovKrt) illustrates their recent issues. It's worth noting that I've heard the boots in the second-to-last picture were eventually taken back for a full-refund, despite their initial claim that it's within-spec.

      @EastWest:

      In need of a smarter boot so any takers on the leffot Icy Boondocker in a different smooth leather, dark Brown/ Merlot ideally. Would get them from them but not a huge fan of customs charges to the UK.

      How about this service boot I specced earlier?

      @mrman:

      Icy mocha cxl that is sold out at viberg.com, again with dainite soles, with or without a toe cap (haven't decided yet)

      Might be interested also with brown wax flesh, again in 2030.

      Also, mrman, would you be interested in dark brown calf? That way we'd have three already.

      Anyone know if this would be Guidi calfskin now?

      @leej0101:

      I'm using some foam leather shoe cleaning solution. Am able to get rid of the stains on the crepe sole but not the leather.

      If it's really bothering you, some saddle soap and then a decent conditioner should help. Be sure to condition after using the saddle soap.

      What are you doing to try to clean them?

      @j3001:

      I'd be interested in a simple pair of service boots in dark brown calf, something along the lines of these:

      2030 last
      Dainite sole
      Straight toe cap
      7 eyelets

      Anybody else?

      That's a fantastic sounding makeup. Not sure about the toe-cap, though normally I like them. You have a picture of a calf boot like this with one?

      No more vintage tan roughout as far as I know. I think the closest thing is the copper task roughout, which is very nice.

      @mclaincausey:

      I think a service boot mixing rough and smooth out leather of the same tone would be cool. Rough on ankle support and/or heel counter, for example.

      Something like this?

      I think if you clearly mark the item as "made in Canada with US leather" and specify that it's being sent back to the manufacturer for a resole, it should be OK. FedEx is probably a better bet than USPS/Canada Post, but I've only ever done the latter to ship to Canada.

      On what box? Post a picture of the boot in question. I've handled the copper task roughout, and it's very nice. I've never heard of a suede version.
