Designed by Andersen-Andersen in Denmark, the “Marine” crew neck uses a 12-gauge pure wool knit to create a light-to-medium-weight sweater, ideal for cool summer evenings and autumnal layering. Knitted and linked in Italy, this fully fashioned knit features a symmetrical design — meaning the front and back are identical, allowing the sweater to be worn either way around. In the past, this symmetry made it easier for sailors to dress in the dark. However, Andersen-Andersen honours the tradition for a more sustainable reason, believing that rotating a sweater reduces wear in any one spot, thereby extending its life.

As for the wool itself, Andersen-Andersen’s signature yarn is made from mulesing-free, 100% pure new wool sourced from Corriedale sheep in Patagonia. The fibres are carefully cleansed and worsted to remove broken and short fibres before being given an extra spin to create a denser, more durable yarn that is far less likely to pill. So while this particular sweater is considered a medium-light style, it offers the same level of strength and longevity as the brand’s heavier-gauge knits.
